Under A Starlit Sky

Image

As the sun sat itself down over the shore line, the boat became more still over the glass resembled water. The crickets began to sing as my guitar did as well. The boat spun ever so slightly, just like the stars seemed to do above our heads. Seven of us sat and enjoyed the beautiful scape around us, when all the sudden, God’s presence fell. It wasn’t forced, but rather gentleman like. Peace overcame the air. And love saturated our hearts. THE love and peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). A love that faintly whispers in the wind of your heart, “It is well”.

God’s presence is not just made for Sunday… It’s made for everyday and every moment. It’s not a foreign thing that is creepy or abnormal, quite frankly these days, it’s the only thing to me that seems right. On the boat we sat still, cuddled under blankets, looking up a sky so vast. Though we don’t understand it, we gaze upon it and did not stop desiring to know more about. May my heart never stop seeking to know more Jesus more. May I never cease in my pursuit of loving people more, like He did.

“Come Thou Fount” – Valley Sessions

It must have been a sight. Eight or so, semi dressed up 18-25 year olds, pulling into a land reserve where bikers usually infest the trails. Saying that we were stared at would be an understatement.

As we hiked to our destination I felt like a seven dwarf heading off to work, “Hi Ho Hi Ho”. Those trees must have been laughing watching us carry so many awkward instruments. I know I was laughing. It was a little adventure on a Tuesday afternoon.

So many bugs! So many bugs surrounded us once we started setting up. I think we may have even gotten a few smack attacks recorded, those little stinkers.

Recording this Valley Session with the worship team that I love brought so much joy to my heart. Not only do we get to do what we love, which is worshiping God… we get to capture it in a creative, expressive way and share it with you!

Enjoy!

“Love Is A Verb” John Mayer (Carli Jeen)

This afternoon was perfection for a chill, jam session on the deck. I LOVE this song (anything John Mayer really) but honestly had no desire to set up my equipment to record it. It’s less than a minute, but hey… hope ya enjoy…. (bloopers at end – I’m pretty funny guys)

“Fix You” Coldplay (Carli Jean)

A friend suggested that I covered this song yesterday and I’m glad she did. Vocally, it’s SUCH a fun song!! Though the lyrics are sad, I hope the ending makes you giggle.

“Let It Be” – (Carli Jean & Darby Marie)

For my sweet, sweet brother- you’ve taught me that God is still God, and to simply let it be. Big thanks and beyond to all the support from friends, family, and Epic Commission…your prayers are beautiful, and make a difference. (Darby Marie)

This video is a tribute to Jay Sayles and to the hurting and lost effected in Boston. Prayer only works if you do it. Praying… (Carli Jean)

“Under Construction”

Image

As you make your way down the highway and construction is afoot, you become fully aware of it. Construction does not cater to your schedule, patients or availability, but rather it happens regardless. It may or may not slow you down, depending on the congestion of the traffic flow ahead. Sometimes there are multiple signs that warn you of the upcoming construction and other times accidents are barely prevented due to its abrupt appearance. Either way, in drivers training we are all taught where the brake pedal is and how to efficiently use it. We are all given the tools to handle traffic, but some handle it with more drive than others.

The things we fill our life with determine our effectiveness and speed in which we do it. Addictive social media behavior, unneeded friendships, lazy habits, yucky tv shows and unhealthy foods are some of the things that produce heavy traffic in our lives while going through unavoidable construction. I look back on one year ago and I feel like a completely different person since then. We are all growing and undergoing construction, but are you making the journey more difficult than it should be? What are you filling your tank with? Practically speaking, take a look at your recent text conversations, netflix queue and itunes most listened to songs. When you analyze your answers, how do they affect your traffic flow? Do they slow you down from becoming everything God has you to be or are they holding you at a stand still?

The beautiful thing about the journey is that you have the ability to speed up the pace of your effectiveness. Either make the hard choices now and get to where you’re going faster or keep moving at the pace you are and get there slower. Its ultimately up to you. The ability to recognize your speed reveals the teachability of your heart. Remember, we are all a work in progress so give yourself a break and stop being so hard on yourself. Pin point where you are and make some changes that will increase your speed. We’re going to make mistakes, but there is so much more we can be doing through the construction of life to ensure that our ability to reach the lost is accomplished. If we endeavor to drive through our construction with greater focus, how much more ground could we be covering for God’s kingdom.

“And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it.” Isaiah 35:8

“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:14

“Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:6

“God is our refuge and strength, a great help in times of distress.” Proverbs 46:1
